Today the Buccaneers will take the field in Dallas to face a Cowboys team that had its 11 game winning streak broken last week by the Giants. Tampa Bay is currently in a 5 game winning streak themselves. The Bucs in 2016 are unlike the Bucs teams of the past few years. Lets hope they are different than every Bucs team that went to Dallas to play the Cowboys.
Each year, Tampa Bay failed to score TOUCHDOWNS in the redbone, settling for Field Goals. Of course this wasn’t the issue with the 1981 Playoff game, a 10-0 half time deficit, turned to 38-0 whitwash when coach John McKay’s game plan was a deep passing attack.
Problem was, with everyone going out, the Bucs O line could not handle the Cowboys Doomsday Defense; put so much pressure on Williams he almost broke. In half. No chipping by Tight End, nothing; the plan was sound as Dallas had a week pass defense, but without time, Williams could not set up, much less pass.
The next year began the RED ZONE CURSE… regular season, 5 visits to the Red Zone, 9
points on FGs. 82 playoffs, same story pretty much. 2008, Garcia at QB, but same problem. 2011 Freeman and the Bucs embarrassed themselves on national TV when Dion Sanders announced at halftime ” I know quitting, and this team has quit”.
Well the 2016 wont quit, but they must score TDs not FGs in the Red Zone. IF they do, with three Touchdowns, the Bucs could win this game tonight; the first appearance on Sunday Night Football since 2008- the LAST YEAR the Bucs were relevant in the NFL and controlled their own destiny in the Playoff race.
